Mathematical Modeling for Aeration Design
SSI utilizes mathematical models in the design of aeration systems and in the design and improvement of new and existing products.
Through the Biowin™ simulator we are able to predict system performance well enough to guide us in arranging diffuser tapers in a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) plant. Our internally developed heat transfer model in MathCad™ predicts air discharge temperature from suspended, buried and submerged air piping which helps us make accurate plastic selections for aeration systems in hot places and in deep tanks where heat from air compression can be significant.
We have models to predict headloss and velocity, for buoyancy, and BOD removal, seismic loads, channel velocity forces, and oxygen transfer efficiency based on a variety of inputs. And we use modern software and hardware including CFD, XRD, and FEA for quality control, development, and application engineering.
Experience has taught us that predictive modeling works, particularly when checked against empirical examples where possible.
